Meet Varun

Meet Varun, student at University of Bridgeport.

Not long ago visitors to the food pantry at University of Bridgeport had to squeeze into a small room with limited choices.

Staff reported, "Only four students could access the pantry at once, inventory was severely limited, and the space was neither warm nor accessible."

Thanks to Connecticut Foodshare investing in a revamp of their space, students from all over the world now use Knight's Pantry and feel welcome, respected and cared for. One student Varun, shared:

“I don't go towards the meat or chicken as a vegetarian person, but I have lots of other options. I would say [I'm saving] around $80 to $100 a month.”

When budgets are limited, choices shouldn't be. Varun is now able to focus on his studies and not worry about making meals happen. While the food pantry is not his only source of food, the convenience of a welcoming on campus pantry makes all the difference for him. It's helping his future get off to a good, healthy start.
